Several items that New York Film Gear carry have made it onto the set of ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’. Martin Scorceses newest feature shooting here in the U.K. at Shepperton Studios. We’ve got several Lanternlocks on the show. In fact, you will quite often find one mounted to the front of the Louma crane.
The ‘Speed Clip’ has made its appearance, and everyone that’s used it has loved it. It really is the simplest way to secure a textile to scaff tube.
They also purchased an item that can easily be ignored, the ‘Pony’ Clip. Or Spring Clip, as the New York crew calls ‘em, or ‘Grip Clips’ which seems to be what they call them in LA. We’ve got dozens on set, and their uses are far too many to mention. Just check out the ‘our gear in action’ page of our website to see all these terrific bits being used.
The film is going well, and I love being among some old friends, and some new ones. Being the movie freak I am, and starving to work on a big picture as I have been, this job is making me really happy. Wanna place bets on how I feel on day 60?
Later,
H.

I’ve been a bit silent for the last five weeks. I was working on the comedy ‘The Inbetweeners’. It was a tough schedule, 6 day weeks with a lot of splits. The cameraman was Ben Wheeler, and the gaffer was Shaun Mone. Both good guys that really know what they’re doing. It’s a tough shoot for everyone, and somehow everyone keeps it together all the time.
NYFG has been busy as well. Selling a wide variety of bits and bobs. The ‘nesting’ apple boxes have been doing well, and once they’re on set, it’s hard to find a reason NOT to use them. We used the ‘magic-arm’ clamps on the show and they were a big hit. I’m telling you, once you use them, you won’t want to go back to ‘k’ clamps.
On the personal front, I’ve bought a MacBook and am muddling my way through learning how to use it properly. I’ve also got a spot on the Martin Scorcese picture ‘The Invention of Hugo Cabret’. Shooting at Shepperton studios all through the summer and early fall. The DOP Robert Richardson has brought his American gaffer, key grip, and focus puller. The U.K. gaffer is Lee Walters, Malcolm Huse is on Dolly. I won’t lie, I’m excited to be back on a big picture. I’ve worked with Robert Richardson before on Bringing Out The Dead, and The Good Shepherd, so I know what I’m in for.
I’ll report back as the job progresses.

Some of the many items we sell at NYFG

The 'small' Moy ladderpod

New York Film Gear’s booth at this years BSC SHOW 2010 was busy! Some familiar faces dropped by as well as some new ones. The Lanternlock was a very popular item. Moy’s bazooka, 3-way leveling head and ladderpod were on display as well. Everyone was excited about the shop at Pinewood, and so are we! The doors should be open in a few weeks, although you can probably find someone there if you come any weekday. We’re located right behind the big map when you first come into the grounds! There’s even parking right there!
Hope to see you all soon!

NYFG will be at booth 204 at this years BSC show. We’ll have a variety of gear we carry, such as Modern Studios hood mount, a Hoodman ‘WristShot’, and the popular Lanternlock.

Come by and let us know what you think, and what gear you’d like to see.

Hi! We’ve updated the website; www.newyorkfilmgear.com so it’s now possible to make purchases online.  We’ll be expanding our product line regularly, so check the site from time to time, or sign up on one of our mailing lists.

Our biggest seller is the Lanternlock. No more trashed paper lanterns. It has a strong solid frame with a light socket built in, as well as a perfect extension that you can clamp on to. It’s great if you need to use it on the end of something like a boom pole.

We have a variety of cool stuff for camera assistants and focus pullers.  We have the Cardellini laser pointers; both red and green. And we also have the 16′ Stanley  ’U.S.’  tape measure.

For grips and riggers we carry the full line of Modern Studio Equipment. They make great car rigs, and have a lot of gear that any dolly grip would find useful. Check out the link to the left to see what I’m talking about.

If you have any suggestions of gear you’d like us to carry please let us know!
